My Ultimate 2016 Beauty Favourites

Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017
As we’ve welcomed a new year or as many would say a new time, I thought that I’d revaluate my make-up collection and put together a post all about the beauty products that really stood out to me in 2016. As after all this is a beauty blog and I’m just a little bit obsessed with make-up!

During the twelve months of 2016, I got sent, brought and tried a WHOLE bunch of make-up and beauty products… Granted, not everything was great – in fact there were a few products that I tried once and only once BUT along with the not so great ones there were also products that I found and still ABSOLUTELY adore… and these are the ones that I’ll be sharing with you today. I’ve also tried to limit each category to just one product (of course I like A LOT of other products), it’s just that these are my ultimate favourites.

Choosing just ONE product from each of these categories was VERY TUFF to say the least! HOWEVER, I’m pretty confident with my decision.

Primer – Stila One Step Correct – see my review here

Where would I be without the Stila One Step Correct?! It corrects uneven, red and purple-hued skin tone AMAZINGLY well! Plus it gives my skin hydration and a smooth, soft finish, ready for ANY foundation.

Foundation – NARS Sheer Glow (Shade: Mont Blanc)

The NARS Sheer Glow foundation is just amazing! It always give my skin a nice dewy, medium coverage – and by coverage, I mean, it covers redness, purple-hued under-eye circles, blemishes and an uneven skin tone.
I know that I can always count on this foundation, and for that reason I’d have to call it my ultimate favourite!

Concealer – TooFaced Born This Way (Shade: Very Fair)

As for concealer – and this was an extremely difficult choice – I chose the TooFaced Born This Way concealer, as it blends beautifully, the shade is the perfect colour for my skin and it looks healthy. It also sits and conceals my under-eyes very well, as it brightens and lightens the area.

Face Powder – MAC Studio Fix (Shade: NW18)

After foundation and concealer, always comes powder, and I always like to apply a touch of powder to set and mattify my skin’s finish slightly. To do this I have to say the MAC Studio Fix Plus is my favourite powder to use. As it sits smoothly, it doesn’t emphasise dry patches (which is a known ‘thing’ on my skin) and it adds just a little bit more coverage, which is something that I like and definitely want from a face powder.

Contour – (Cream) Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Stick
& (Powder) Marc Jacobs #InstaMarc Light Filtering Palette (Shade: Dream Filter)
Bronzer – Rosie for Autograph Bronzer (Shade: Magic Contour)

Some days I don’t bother with contouring products, as most of the time you can get away with a good bit of bronzer instead. There are many days however when I like to contour, and when I do this I like to use either my Smashbox (step-by-step) contour stick or my absolutely stunning; light filtering palette by Marc Jacobs!

Blush – NYX Ombré Blush (Shade: Mauve Me)
Highlighter – (Powder) LÓRÉAL True Match Highlight (Shade: Icy Glow)

Told you it’s not all high-end.. (actually I didn’t) BUT these are my drugstore favourites!
The blush by NYX is VERY pigmented, soft, smooth, creamy and just so beautiful once blended on the skin! As for the highlighter – which could be my MOST favourite highlighter EVER – it gives a natural (but not subtle) glow to the skin, which just looks so, SO pretty – I LOVE IT!

Brows – Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil (Shades: 2 + 6)
& (Brow Mascara) Benefit Gimme Brow (Shade: 1)

Remember when I hated the Goof Proof Brow Pencil by Benefit? WELL now I stand corrected, as it’s definitely one of my favourites! It’s also EXTREMELY rare for me to not use my gimme brow, as I literally use this each and EVERY morning when doing my brows. In fact this could be one of the only products that I use consistently.

Primer – Jouer Long-Wear Eye Brightening Primer

I don’t think I’ve ever spoke about the Jouer long-wear eye brightening primer before on my blog?! and if I haven’t, then it’s about time that I did! This has been my favourite eye primer to use for months, as it doesn’t feel thick in consistency, it doesn’t crease, it doesn’t move my previously applied foundation around AND most importantly it makes my eyeshadow look even better.

Eyeshadows – TooFaced Sweet Peach Palette &  MakeUp Geek (Single Eyeshadow Pans)

There’s DEFINITELY more… I use a different eyeshadow palette probably each day! SO, there’s no way that these are my only two favourites, there just at the minute the only ones that I can think of. Plus, I have a few newbies on the go at the moment – so who know’s, there could be some new favourites to come soon. Either way, I’ll let you know.

Eyeliner – Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliner

If you’ve been reading my blog for a little while then you should know already that this is the ONLY eyeliner that I (can) use. For some reason my eyes stream when I wear eyeliner, plus they can become sore, uncomfortable, itchy and very tired, which is definitely not ideal. As this happens A LOT I tend to stay away from the stuff unless of course it’s an essential! and if that’s the case then I use my trusty Urban Decay 24/7 glide-on eyeliner, as I don’t find this to irritate my eyes as much.

Mascara – Diorshow Iconic Overcurl

You know when a products advertised as amazing but you don’t quite trust the seller’s judgement.. well, for so long I didn’t either BUT then I was in Boots, and I finally gave into temptation. HOW have I been wearing mascara for SO long and not had this one to hand?! It’s literally A M A Z I N G. It gives bold, thick, dark lashes plus length and a good flirty curl.

Liquid Lipstick – Jouer Long-Wear Lip Créme (Shades: Melon & Pétale de rose)
Lipstick – NARS Audacious Lipsticks

I’ve been banging on about these lip products for absolutely ages! In fact, your probably bored of me telling you that you need to try an Audacious lipstick by NARS out. I will however continue, as they’re just TOO good!

Lip Liner – MAC (Crayon) Pencils

I don’t think I’ve come across a lip liner better.. these glides onto the lids effortlessly, they don’t dry up, they last for literally eternity and they look SO pretty!

What else have I been loving?! Well brush wise, my new Beau Belle Brushes are going down a treat and my absolutely STUNNING Artis Oval 7 brush is still a trusty favourite! I’m also loving my new Jo Malone; Peony and Blush Suede Cologne, as it’s sweet, light and florally – which is everything that I like in a scent. Plus the Pixi by Petra Makeup Fixing Mist is very satisfying to use each morning! Who know’s, we could even be looking at some new ultimate favourites?!

I love Sheer Glow and agree that it literally gives the most flawless base ever. I really want to try some more Too Faced palettes this year as I own only one but their Peach palette is stunning! xx

It does! I also find it to be one of the only foundations that I can use with different application methods. Like it works with a kabuki brush, a buffing brush and the Beautyblender! Yes, I’d also love to try the chocolate palette too! Xx

Is it! In fact I need to get a shade darker for when I’m tanned – I just don’t have a clue about which one to choose! And thank you lovely! X

I have always wanted to try Stila one step correct, I have a little redness in my cheeks so I think it could be just what I need. And so keen to try Dior Show Iconic curl too. I need to stop reading these posts, my must buy/try list is getting longer by the day! xx

If your local M&S has a beauty department, I’d recommend going in and trying the tester out first – that’s what I did before buying mine 🙂 And I love that mascara! The only bad thing is that it drys up pretty fast, so you have to be sure to screw the lid on extra tight. Haha I know exactly what you mean! It’s a nightmare, but we carry on looking 🙂 xx

Oh amazing thanks! I couldn’t think where stocked Stila in store. Good to know about the mascara too – thankyou ! xx
