I would happily label myself as a foundation hoarder.
As a foundation always seem to be the product that I’m most drawn to when discovering a new brand or shopping a brand that I know I already adore. Foundations are also the largest part in my makeup collection because experimenting with different foundations, testing out their formula’s, how they apply, their blend-ability and whether or not the coverage is to my cup of tea, is something that I take a lot of satisfaction in.
A foundation that I’ve been desperate to get my hands on for a little while now, is the Luminous Silk Foundation by Giorgio Armani. This foundation claims to have a silky and lightweight formula, which applies seamlessly onto the skin. It also states to have a buildable coverage, with a hydrating formula, which also gives the complexion a healthy looking glow.
As if by magic, the Debenhams Beauty Club team sent me an email early March, telling me that I had £30 worth of points to spend in the beauty department. RESULT. Can you think of a better product to spend your money on? Remembering of course, that I was desperate to try this foundation out for myself, since first seeing it being used by one of favourite influencers online. With the points ready at my fingertips, I eventually purchased this foundation in shade two online, paying just £10 of my own money for it.
Since March (this year), I have been using this foundation in particular at least three times a week, as I like to use my foundations in rotation, to make sure that I am getting the most out of them all.
After using this foundation since early March, I have to tell you that I still don’t have a solid opinion on it.
Do I like it or don’t I?
You would have thought that that would be a simple enough question, wouldn’t you?! but I just can’t answer it I’m afraid.
Some days I love this foundation… when my skin is looking at it’s best by moisturising daily and really taking the time to cleanse and tone my skin properly. Other days this is the worst foundation ever, as the coverage is to sheer and it shows every dry patch going!
(Swatch shows two layers of this foundation applied with a dry Beautyblender).
One thing that I do have to fully agree with though is the description of this foundation by Debenhams.
They say that it has a lightweight formula – and it does. This is a foundation that I will turn to if I don’t want to feel like I’m wearing any face makeup. It blends incredibly effortlessly too! As it DEFINITELY has that silky formula like stated. The formula is also quite thin in consistency, which I guess adds to the fact that this can be quite a sheer coverage foundation. Although, once paired with some dabs of concealer and a bit of powder this can appear really quite beautiful on the skin, with a good medium coverage too.
Would I say that this foundation gives the skin a luminous finish? You know, I don’t think I would.
This certainly isn’t a dewy foundation or anything along those lines but then it definitely isn’t matte in finish either. It’s difficult to say for sure but in my opinion, I would describe this foundation as having a healthy skin looking finish because it’s almost the best of both worlds, in terms of giving the complexion radiance but also magnifying any shine.
Would I say that this foundation is worth it’s forty pound price tag? Hmmmm, that’s a difficult one because there’s people out there (myself included) who would happily pay this price for a designer (brand) of makeup. Buying luxury makeup is, exactly that, luxurious. It’s not essential but it makes you feel good when you buy and use it.
The thing is I really like this foundation and it’s one that I turn to on a regular basis. It doesn’t give the most effective coverage I grant you, in fact a little more coverage would be very much appreciated but once paired with a little concealer and powder, this is a foundation that I really like to use.
It’s one foundation that I’m very glad to have in my makeup collection. I guess it’s not an essential and I could definitely live without having it because it doesn’t as such stand out against everything that I have. Although, I still really like it and enjoy using it. I guess given the fact that the formula is so silky in texture and lightweight, it blends incredibly effortlessly, which makes it a joy to use this foundation in the morning!
