When it comes to the latest makeup obsessions and on-trend techniques, brands within the beauty industry don’t like to do anything by halves. Over time we’ve seen glitter liquid eyeshadows rocket in popularity and highlighters & illuminating products quite literally take over social media on more than one occasion. At the moment, it seems to be setting sprays or finishing mists that we’re all totally obsessing over, as I know my own personal collection has quite easily doubled, if not tripled in size over the last couple of months.
Who knows, perhaps this could be down to the fact that so many MORE brands are now introducing this type of product to the market and their own cosmetic lines?!…
One brand that certainly isn’t late to the party though is TooFaced. As TooFaced recently released the Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray to their ever-growing makeup line.
When I first saw this stunning setting spray advertised on TooFaced’s Instagram page, I was adamant that I was going to add this product to my own personal collection as soon as it became available to buy within the UK. The Hangover Collection by TooFaced is a very respectable line in my opinion, as their coconut face primer is one of my favourite primers to use when my skin’s definitely seeking extra hydration and comfort. Heartbreakingly, however, the US got this TooFaced product first – although, thanks to my very kind auntie – I managed to get mine just a few weeks prior to the rest of the UK, as she went and picked this up for me, along with a few other products in Sephora whilst on holiday in Florida last month.
I think it’s pretty fair to say that TooFaced Cosmetics has their packaging and corporate identity refined to a tee AND if they’re not already paid a small fortune then the TooFaced graphic design team need a pay rise ASAP because the gorgeous packaging of TooFaced’s products definitely contributes to the popularity of the brand as far as I am aware.
Amongst my priming mists and setting spray collection, this one certainly stands a cut above the rest.
The 120ml bottle is definitely bigger physically than any other setting spray that I own, as well as appearing just slightly more refined in terms of design too. I am in love with the soft baby pink to white ombre look also… because at the end of the day, it’s ombre… and it’s pink… AND who doesn’t love the combination of pink with makeup packaging?!
When it comes to the type of spray on a product like this it can literally MAKE or BREAK it.
Unfortunately, the TooFaced Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray does have a rather aggressive spray in my opinion because the spray itself is short but quick and a lot of product seems to come out, which wets the face thoroughly. Although what is unusual to me is that this negative doesn’t bother me immensely – which is odd because I don’t usually like heavy or aggressive setting sprays at all?! Don’t get me wrong, however, giving this product a finer mist would definitely improve it in my opinion, as would a slightly longer spritz overall – because at the moment the application process is very stop /start (if you know what I mean), and this can be a little annoying at times.
I also must tell you that the sprayer on this product definitely contributes to how I use this, as it does make me slightly nervous… which I know is absolutely ridiculous!? I just feel like I always have to consider how close to my face I am spraying this product and how much I am actually using because my face will end up looking like I’ve just been caught out in a mass rainfall if I’m not careful and precise with how much I use and where I spray!
I guess there’s just something about this product that I really, really like and because of which enjoy using.
Which may just over rule my hate for the sprayer, who knows!?
To tell you the truth, as I’ve been sat here writing this review, I’ve just been constantly spraying my face with the Hangover 3-in-1 primer & setting spray, as I honestly don’t have one overall thought and opinion on it.
Part of me wants to dislike it totally because of the aggressive spray that it has – as the sprays manages to get the product in my hair, all-over my clothes as well as completely soaking my face. Although, the other part of me just wants to completely ignore those negative thoughts and tell you all that this is a lovely, lovely product! It has a gorgeous coconut scent to it, which really does fill the space around you with the gorgeous aroma, and the formula itself does actually have some pretty decent ingredients in it too. It is weightless just like the description says and it does give the skin a hydration fix if required. I like using this spray before makeup, as a sort of pre-primer step, although I still like to use an actual priming product because I think it is necessary for me and my complexion. As well as a primer, I like to use this after applying my makeup – to set it all in place but also throughout the day, to refresh my complexion.
In all, I must say that I am a fan of this product! I like to use it on a regular basis although I think it would be ideal for taking away on holiday, particularly if you were traveling to somewhere hot! Or even for the more summery of days here in England! The 3-in-1 primer & setting spray is better suited to a more dewy skin finish in my opinion, as it definitely leaves a rather healthy looking, hydrated sheen over the complexion after use.
