Over the last couple of months, my makeup collection has embarrassingly grown and let’s not deny anything here, I absolutely love it! The sight of new makeup literally gives me butterflies, which makes me very happy indeed. With all of this in mind, I wanted to bring all of the latest products that I’ve managed to get my hands on together, and create a pretty random makeup look for you all to hopefully enjoy! Within this post, I am going to be sharing with you all a few products that I am familiar with, the odd holy grail one and a few others that I’ve maybe only worn once or twice…
So grab a cuppa or whatever beverage takes your fancy and settle down comfy because this may just be a long one!
Breaking this makeup look apart…
To prep and prime the skin, I wanted to use the TooFaced Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer and Setting Spray as this is the latest type of primer to hit my collection. It is a very quick and easy product to use, although the sprayer is a little aggressive for my liking, as it easily covers the majority of my hair line too which I wouldn’t consider to be ideal.
When it came to the foundation that I wore within this look, I HAD to give my brand new Capture Totale Dream Skin Cushion Foundation by Dior a go, as I got my hands on this foundation last Friday and have literally been desperate to try it out properly for myself.
Admittingly, I’ve only used this cushion foundation alone once – meaning a full, in-depth review would never be fair at this stage. Although as first impressions go, I can tell you that this gives the complexion a VERY sheer but glowy coverage, to which blemishes, freckles, spots and intense under eye dark circles could still be visible. A touch of concealer would fix any issues as far as this stands although let’s not deny anything here, a little more coverage would be warmly welcomed as far as I am aware.
As the Dior Capture Totale Cushion Foundation has such an incredibly light coverage, the use of a concealer was definitely necessary for me.
I decided to use a mixture of two different concealers within this look, as I wanted to both conceal blemishes but also brighten my under eyes slightly too. For the blemishes and uneven skin tone that I wanted to tackle, I decided to go with the NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer, in the shade: Chantilly, as it has a very beautiful, thick but creamy formula that just sits on the skin amazingly well. To brighten and lift my under eyes ever so slightly more, I decided to use the Instant Full Cover Concealer by Bobbi Brown, in the shade: Porcelain, as this is a lovely product to use for brightening darker, purple-hued complexions and under eyes specifically. It has a very dry formula, which doesn’t make it the nicest to apply I must admit, although this does blend into the skin rather easily with a damp Beautyblender in my opinion!
To set both concealers in place, whilst also trying to avoid any possible creasing, I lightly brushed some of the TooFaced Born This Way Ethereal Setting Powder using a Real Techniques Setting brush. I decided against baking at this time, as I didn’t feel it to be completely necessary with such a sheer base – if I was wearing a fuller, heavier coverage foundation however then I would definitely consider baking to be a very beneficial thing to do and definitely worth the extra time and product!
To give my complexion slightly more coverage too, as the Dior Capture Totale Cushion foundation is lacking when used alone, I decided to also lightly and sparingly brush a touch of my favourite pressed powder, which is the MAC Studio Fix, in the shade: NW18 over my entire face…
Do remember that if you have dry skin like I do, then the last thing in the world that you should want to do is cover your complexion with powdered products because powder can appear cakey – it can suffocate already dried out skin and really emphasise large pores and drier areas dramatically.
Contour, Bronze, Highlight, Blush
As I hoped that I would be creating a rather intense, dramatic eye look, I didn’t want to go OTT with my face makeup, which is why I haven’t used a specific contouring product here. To give my complexion a little more warmth though and in some respect a little more shape, I lightly contoured and bronzed in the usual places using both Hoola & Hoola Lite by Benefit mixed together. For blush, I dipped into the Dandelion blush by Benefit also, as this is in the Cheek Parade palette which I just so happened to be using at the time. In all honesty, neither three of these face products are an essential to this makeup look specifically – they were just what I had to hand at the time and a palette that I hadn’t used either in quite some time.
OOO LA LA, have you seen my new highlighter?!
Recently, I managed to get my hands on the Diorskin Nude Air Luminzer, in the shade: 002, and add it to my ever growing makeup collection or should I say Dior stash! Dior is openly my favourite higher-end brand when it comes to makeup, as they have never let me down with their beautiful products.
I can quite happily say that this luminizer by Dior is absolutely stunning both in its packaging AND on one’s face!
With a glowy complexion, I wanted to create quite a dramatic but wearable eye look, which is why I went with my relatively new Marc Jacobs Eyeshadow Palette in Scandelust – as it contains a rather lovely selection of workable shades in my opinion. To pair over the top, and just really enhance the colouring of my eyes and make them POP, I also added a touch of the shade ‘Work It’ from the pretty Glitter Bomb palette from TooFaced, as I felt that this shade would really compliment the others that I’d just applied from the Marc Jacobs palette. Overall, I must say that I am a little disappointed with the pigmentation from the Glitter Bomb Palette, as the shades are pretty opaque looking in my opinion.
Moving on to one of my favourite steps, mascara.
When I wear a face full of makeup, I will never feel complete until a good few layers of mascara are coating my lashes nicely. I don’t know what it is but mascara just seems to bring a whole look together for me, which is why I decided to go for the volumising LÓréal Paradise Extatic mascara here! This mascara is a good dupe for the TooFaced Better Than Sex mascara in my opinion – although this cheaper alternative is a pain in the bum to remove so please bare that in mind!
The last piece of the puzzle as far as this makeup look is concerned is the lips, and for this part I went with a gorgeous Buxom Bold Gel lipstick, in the shade: Rebel Rose, as it has a really lovely, hydrating, soft and comfortable formula which I was definitely craving at the time of wearing this face full of makeup!
What do you think about this makeup look, would you be keen to try any of the products mentioned within this post yourself?!
