Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Foundation (Review on dry skin)

Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Foundation3

It is no secret that I like Hourglass Cosmetics. I have spent far too much of my own money on Hourglass products over the years. With some of the products I've tried remaining favourites of mine whilst others lay untouched somewhere in my makeup collection.

Left - Foundation Stick (Blanc) / Right - Liquid Foundation (Blanc)

Following the overwhelming success of Hourglass's Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick, the brand has created a similar foundation but in a liquid form. "Designed to deliver instant, full coverage in as little as half a pump," they say that you can apply this foundation with your favourite applicator, although a dampened sponge with lessen the coverage just a tad.

The Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Foundation's innovative, weightless formula claims to be the "future of foundation". Offering a smooth, long-wearing application that feels like second-skin, "without drying the skin out", Hourglass claims that there is no need to apply a primer before this product. The Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Foundation is also said to contain light-refracting microspheres which blur imperfections for a soft-focus finish. Ideally allowing a flawless complexion each and every day of the year.

For anyone who isn't aware I have used the Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick many times before and I do really enjoy using that product. I would say that out of the two the foundation stick is better suited to a drier skin type only because this foundation can sit and blend really quite nicely over a dewy, freshly-moisturised base, whereas the liquid formula can be quite challenging to use alongside other products. Therefore, if you have a drier skin type (like me) you can get away with really layering hydrating products on the skin before applying the stick foundation.

It is true what they say, you only need one small pump of this foundation for your entire complexion. Based on past experience, I would say that you would not want to apply more than one pump (two at max) of this foundation because that is when the dry, cakiness will start to appear. When I have mistakenly applied more of this foundation than I should, my skin has been left feeling horrendous... it is dry and suffocated, patchy in appearance, and not comfortable at all.

If you are someone (like me) who always has to apply their eye cream, moisturiser, and even a primer too, then you should give your skin plenty of time to let these products sink in. I feel that the Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Foundation "works" better into the skin with a dry kabuki brush but also when all skincare products have fully absorbed into the skin as well. For some reason, this foundation does not like being mixed with anything else. May that be a facial oil or illuminating drops, I cannot say that a combination of the two has ever worked out for me. In fact, oil in the past has only made this liquid foundation separate and blend out awfully on my skin.

If you someone who likes your foundation to have a satin/ demi-matte finish then you should head to your nearest Space N K store to check this foundation out! If you are someone, on the other hand, who much prefers a lightweight, dewy and glowy finish to your foundation then this particular foundation may not be for you, although the stick version of this product could be one that you may want to try?!

I’ve tried the stick version of this product and I wasn’t blown away. I like it but the coverage level seriously underwhelmed me. I’m starting to accept the fact that I have combo skin (dehydrated skin with an oily t-zone) a t-zone that gets extra extra oily in the summer. So I’ve had to adjust how I approach dewy foundations, perhaps this foundation will work for me, especially in this warm weather and I can always mix some dewy foundation with it during the cooler months.

Have you tried using a mattifying primer on your t-zone but then applying a more hydrating primer on the areas where your skin gets dehydrated? I don’t multi-prime myself but I know a lot of people who do and swear by it! OX

I really like the sound of the foundation stick, so I think I may pick that one up instead of the liquid version. Great post! xx

To be fair, these are both really good products – the liquid foundation just doesn’t suit my drier skin type unfortunately! If you are looking into purchasing the Hourglass foundation stick, I would definitely recommend heading to your nearest SpaceNK store to get shade matched because the shade range is a little confusing in my opinion!! Thank you for your lovely comment, I am so glad you found my review helpful OX
