The Pat McGrath Labs Mothership Eyeshadow Palette was on my wishlist for months and months. Featuring just ten shades in total this palette is by no means a necessity, although the product itself does scream luxuriousness and expense. Ranging from a small collection of metallics that have a “diamond sparkle” to three “richly saturated” mattes, the Mothership eyeshadow palette is certainly very versatile in my opinion, although “dramatic” and intense all at the same time.
The Pat McGrath Mothership Palette is big and bulky. The packaging is solid and heavy but contemporary and sophisticated as well. There is a large, beautifully framed mirror on the inside lid whilst the shadow pans themselves are large and evenly spaced. There has been no expense spared with regards to the packaging of this palette, although this all certainly reflects in the retail price.
The shade range is versatile yet complimentary. From two richly-saturated brown shades to a vampy purple, there is a seductive metallic red and two holographic shimmers that reflect green in this palette. Comparing all of the shades in this palette, I must say that the three matte shadows are the least impressive as far as I am concerned. They are pigmented and certainly wearable colours, however not the easiest of matte shadows to work with in my opinion. The metallics, on the other hand, are phenomenal. From a light, silky texture that honestly feels like absolutely nothing on the skin to a gorgeous sparkle that glistens in natural sunlight, I am obsessed. If you are someone who doesn’t enjoy wearing a heavy face of makeup but still wants an eye look that looks intense and dramatic, then you should check out the Pat McGrath metallics shadows at once.
To sum up my thoughts on the Pat McGrath Mothership Eyeshadow Palette, I could only say that this palette is a luxury and certainly not a palette that anyone needs to own. The metallic shadows, however, have one of the best formulas that I have personally EVER tried. Their texture is light and silky yet incredibly smooth. They have a beautiful sparkly finish which glistens in natural sunlight yet this sparkle does not appear heavy or chunky on the eyes in any sense?! It is difficult to say for sure as to whether I think that this palette is worth its hefty price tag. Even though the metallic formula is truly amazing and I really like the shade range that the Mothership palette offers, is a hefty price tag really justifiable?
